What will you do?

Based at Van Gelder’s highly automated warehouse in Ridderkerk, you lead the Toyota Automated Logistics maintenance team in keeping critical systems running safely, reliably, and efficiently.

As Shift Leader, you take ownership of the daily maintenance operation during your shift. You lead and support your team, set priorities, coordinate responses to breakdowns, and ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and effectively. You balance operational demands with technical priorities to maximise system availability and minimise downtime.

Acting as the key link between technicians, Flow Control, Van Gelder, and Toyota Automated Logistics, you ensure clear communication, effective collaboration, and smooth shift handovers. You also contribute to continuous improvement by addressing recurring issues, developing your team, and improving system reliability and performance.

Your Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and coordinate the maintenance team during your shift. Prioritise maintenance activities based on safety, system availability, and operational impact. Coordinate troubleshooting, breakdown recovery, and escalation to specialist support. Ensure safe working practices, high-quality maintenance, and accurate technical documentation. Monitor system performance, outstanding issues, and ongoing maintenance activities. Maintain clear communication with Van Gelder and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective shift handovers. Identify recurring faults and drive improvements in safety, reliability, and efficiency. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous development.

Your Profile

You combine a strong technical background with the leadership skills to guide a team and keep operations running smoothly. You take ownership, make sound decisions under pressure, and know how to balance technical priorities with operational demands.

Ideally, you bring:

MBO Level 4 or equivalent technical education, preferably in Mechatronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Automation.Experience in technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis within an automated or industrial environment.Experience coordinating technicians or technical teams, preferably in a shift-based operation.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise issues based on safety and operational impact.Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with technicians, management, engineering specialists, and customers.A structured, proactive approach with a strong sense of ownership and a focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.Good command of English or Dutch.Willingness to obtain NEN 3140 certification as a Skilled Person, if not already certified.

You remain calm under pressure, provide clear direction, and take responsibility when it matters most. Living within approximately one hour of Van Gelder in Ridderkerk is preferred.

About the Team

You will work at Van Gelder’s highly automated warehouse in Ridderkerk, as part of a technical maintenance team operating in a 5-shift rotation.

As Shift Leader, you will work closely with technicians, the Flow Controller, Van Gelder’s operational teams, and Toyota Automated Logistics support departments. Strong teamwork, clear communication, and shared responsibility are essential to keeping the operation running smoothly.

You will play a key role in bringing people together, setting priorities, and ensuring that everyone knows what needs to be done, especially when technical challenges arise. Through effective collaboration and clear shift handovers, you help maintain system reliability and ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
